Student Transportation Scholarship


Student Transportation Scholarships are merit-based and designed to support and encourage students interested in pursuing a career in the transportation industry, or pursuing graduate study in a related field. Both undergraduates and graduate students are eligible and must be nominated by a faculty member. Recipients will be selected by a panel of the CTEDD Advisory Board and faculty. Students must be currently enrolled at one of CTEDD's consortium universities: The University of Texas at Arlington, Georgia Tech, the University of South Florida, the University of Wisconsin at Madison, or California Polytechnic State University. All students are encouraged to apply, but priority will be given to undergraduates.


Eligibility: Transportation-related study or extracurricular experience, interested in pursuing a transportation career. Students must be at a CTEDD-consortium member (University of Texas at Arlington, Georgia Tech, University of South Florida, University of Wisconsin at Madison, California Polytechnic State University). Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.

Prizes: At least $800 to each recipient.

Due Date: May 29, 2020

Procedure: Please include the following documents:
  • Faculty nomination letter.
  • Student letter explaining their career plans and current experience in the transportation field. Students should also describe their experience in the transportation field up to this point, including their thesis, capstone project and/or any transportation project they may have worked on in a research, work volunteer or extracurricular capacity, and how it is related to CTEDD's focus areas. The letter should also include the student's expected graduation date.
  • Unofficial transcript.
The selection committee will identify awardees for this scholarship based on:
  • Significance of chosen area for research or practice (importance, impact)
  • Relevance to one or more of CTEDD's focal areas, including:
    • Creative use of existing infrastructures for future transportation needs.
    • Innovative funding strategies for future transportation infrastructure and better maintenance of the existing one
    • Transportation systems, economic competitiveness and equal access
    • Employing big data and innovative techniques to improve system efficiency
    • Ensuring transportation system vitality through performance management and monitoring systems
    • Transportation policy and decision-making
  • Accomplishments in the field to date.
  • Likelihood of future accomplishments.
  • Letter of nomination.
  • Time to graduation.
  • US Citizenship or permanent resident status of applicant.

Selection committee members are not obligated to select anyone, if they determine none of the applicants to be sufficiently outstanding.
The winners will have their names placed on a plaque that will be displayed at CTEDD's offices at UT-Arlington.
